Snowmobilers kept the Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue busy with several calls southwest of West Yellowstone this weekend.

The first call on Saturday came in from the Two Top trail system about 12 miles southwest of West Yellowstone at 11:16 a.m. when a 64-year-old woman crashed her snowmobile. She was stopped when another rider crashed into the back of her. This sent her and her snowmobile down an eight-foot embankment and launched her over the handlebars.

She was placed on a backboard and into a special snow ambulance before being transported by helicopter to Eastern Idaho Regional Medical Center. The woman required a medical helicopter to respond because of the severe injuries she sustained to her ribs, back, femur, and wrist.

Another call came in later that afternoon from Two Top trail system about 8 miles southwest of West Yellowstone. Two men, a 26-year-old and a 40-year-old, got their snowmobiles stuck in the backcountry.

The men walked to cell service to be able to call for help but were unsure of their location. They were able to send their GPS location and the Gallatin County Sheriff Search and Rescue located them and then took them to their stuck snowmobiles.
