Storm Warnings and Weather Advisories are covering southwest Montana through Tuesday morning. Valleys may only see a couple of inches of fresh snow, while higher elevations may get up to 10 inches - making travel difficult at times.

  • WINTER STORM WARNING REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM MONDAY EVENING TO NOON TUESDAY.
  • WHAT...Heavy snow expected. Total snow accumulations between 5 and 10 inches.
  • WHERE...Gallatin and Madison County Mountains and Centennial Mountains.
  • Total snow accumulations up to 3 inches, with locally higher amounts up to 6 inches near north-facing terrain for the Gallatin Valley and Madison River Valley.
  • WHEN...From 6 PM this evening to Noon Tuesday.
  • IMPACTS...Gusty winds and the weight of heavy, wet snow on tree limbs may down power lines and could cause sporadic power outages.
  • Travel will be very difficult.
  • Snow is expected to melt on roadways through the day Monday, but begin accumulating overnight as temperatures cool and snowfall intensifies.
  • If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food, and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions can be obtained by calling 5-1-1.

If you'll be traveling over passes between now and midday Tuesday, you're going to encounter some very sloppy road conditions. For instance, for the Butte/Homestake Pass area:

  • WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM 6 PM THIS EVENING TO 6 AM TUESDAY.
  • WHAT...Snow expected. Total snow accumulations of 3 to 5 inches at Georgetown Lake and over Homestake Pass and MacDonald Pass, and 1 to 3 inches elsewhere.
  • Gusty north winds between 15 and 25 mph along Interstate 15 south of Butte and Homestake Pass which will create patchy blowing snow and visibility less than one mile at times.
  • WHERE...Butte, Georgetown Lake, Highway 12 Garrison to Elliston, Homestake Pass, and MacDonald Pass.
