Do Montanans Owe A Ton Of Student Debt? It’s Surprising
How much is the average student debt in Montana? We have the statistics you should know.
One thing that has been a hot topic among adults and kids is student debt. Many of us had to take out costly loans to go to college to further our education, and only recently have people realized how broken the system is.
Whether you want to attend community college or a four-year university, you could pay a lot to further your education. These decisions also don't include whether you stay in your state for school or go out of state.
Montana has several junior colleges, public four-year institutions, and private colleges. Many folks would believe that Montana is a cheap place to get an education, but you might be surprised to learn these statistics.
USA Today made an interactive map of the average person owes in every state for student debt with the help of the Chamber of Commerce. Where does Montana rank among other states? It's not too bad.
According to the Chamber of Commerce, the average Montanan owes around $32,441. That might seem high, but Montana ranks in the bottom 15.
You might think the student debt should be lower in Montana, but private institutions like Carroll College and growing campuses like Montana State University must raise prices to help pay for the school.
With the rising costs, is it worth it to go to college? It's up to you and what you want to pursue in life.
I loved my college years, but it's something I am still paying off to this day.
