One of my favorite TV Shows is all about Montana.  No, I'm not talking about Yellowstone, although I'm told that's some really good television, and I should put it on my "watch" list. The show that I'm talking about is Backroads of Montana on PBS.

The show, which started back in 1991 with host William Marcus, is a little slice of Montana heaven!  We all know about the reasons people come to visit. The National Parks, the wildlife, the majestic mountains, winter sports, all of it.

Yes, we have all of those things, and they are indeed breathtaking and very enjoyable. However, what I love about Backroads is that it focuses so much on the people of Montana.

I discovered the show back in 2006 when I was living in Missoula and instantly fell in love with it. There's several episodes on the website, so if you are looking for something to binge-watch, add it to the list.

Backroads of Montana goes all over the state and in doing so, gives the viewers experiences they normally wouldn't have.  We learn about things in the bigger cities and the smaller towns. We get to see and learn about Montana businesses, visit ranches, Ghost Towns, and everything in between.

For me, what I think makes the show so special and unique, are the stories behind it all.  Those stories are told by people.  Normal everyday people are the very backbone of this great state.

My favorite part of the show is the theme song.  The song, "Home Is Where Montana Is" was written by Montanan Bruce Anfinson.

Home is where Montana is, Montana is my home. From mountain peaks to prairie lands, to places I have known. And I'm bound to ramble, yes I'm bound to roam. And when I'm in off the road now boys, Montana is my home.

The Backroads of Montana website also has some cool features, one of them is the Montana Road Trip Planner.  Here, you can plan a road trip and see some of the places that have been featured on the show.

So, if you are looking for a getaway and want to see some things off the beaten path, check it out, and check out Backroads of Montana and tell me what you think!
