Montana is experiencing one of the driest winters the state has seen in a very long time. Snowpack levels are at historic lows across the state, but just how bad is it?

The lack of precipitation this winter is impacting Montana in several ways. It has already forced some ski areas in the state to shut down for the season, but low snowpack levels could cause devastating problems in the state later this year. Many residents have taken to social media to voice their concerns about the upcoming wildfire season. There is still hope for a late winter, but things aren't looking good.

Wildfires are common in Montana, but snowfall and rainfall help to keep forests and other potential fuels green throughout the summer. If snowpack levels are down, those fuels tend to dry out much faster. Also, if there are a bunch of wildfires in Montana this summer, visitation numbers will take a huge hit, which will be bad news for local businesses and the state' economy.

Montana's lakes, rivers, and streams also rely on winter snowfall, and the lack of snow could have a major impact of wildlife and fisheries throughout the state.
