There are incredible resources with just a click when you're looking for accurate, up-to-the-minute weather conditions around Montana's backcountry.

Everyone in Montana likes to keep up on weather conditions...average folks and avid mountaineers. The good news is that we have an enormous amount of information that is gathered in real time around the state.

One of the best resources locally, is the Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center. We talk about these guys all the time. Not only do they have access to monitors all over the region but their personal knowledge is absolutely invaluable.

  • The Weather Information Map at the GNFAC website is almost a one-stop shop for weather reading in the region.
  • There you'll also find weather station information from Bridger Bowl, Big Sky Resort and the Yellowstone Club with just a click.
  • You'll even get options to get SPECIFIC lift conditions at Bridger Bowl and Big Sky Resort...not just one reading for the whole mountain.
  • Weather stations across the region on this handy map also include: Yellow Mule, the Taylor Fork, Hyalite Canyon, Cooke City and the Lionhead area.
  • SNOWTEL sites include: Monument Peak, Fisher Creek, the Madison Plateau and Whiskey Creek, Beaver Creek and Carrot Basin (South Madison Range), Lone Mountain, Shower Falls for the North Gallatin Range and Brackett Creek on the east side of the Gallatin Range.
