Could We See This New Car Scam in Montana?
This might be one of the wildest scams we have heard in years, and Montanans need to protect themselves.
Have you thought about getting a new or used vehicle? Everyone has been tempted to update or purchase a new car or truck. It makes sense. You want the best vehicle in Montana to get around town or across the state. This is especially true during the winter.
Most folks will check out used or new vehicles at car dealerships, but everyone is always looking for a good deal. Folks will look at Facebook Marketplace or Craigslist to find cheap deals on cars to save some money.
A new scam has been spreading around that could reach Montana, and we want you to be prepared.
In Colorado, people selling cars on Craigslist have been targeted by scammers, and the way they are scamming the sellers is wild. The scammers will ask for a vehicle history and send a link to the seller. When the seller clicks on the link, it says they have to pay for the report, but the only issue is the report isn't real.
This link accesses the seller's information and costs people hundreds of dollars a day before they can fix it.
This scam is terrifying and could happen in Montana. Many Montanans prefer to sell their cars privately, and scammers are finding new ways to try and access your hard-earned money.
How can you prevent this from happening to you? Make sure you have the car history ready from credible sources like Carfax. Then, you won't have to click on any links.
Keep yourselves safe out there. No one wants to be taken advantage of.
