Would These Services in Bozeman Work or Fail?
This would be interesting to see in our community. We have seen big businesses Uber/UberEats and Lyft come into our area with great affect and people seem to be enjoying it. But could other services that have worked in bigger cities work here in Bozeman? Services like Postmates (food/drink delivery), Bird (rent electric scooters) and Social Bicycles (bicycle rental service). Let's look at some of the pros and cons of these services.
Pros
With the success of UberEats going pretty well, Postmates would be a easy transition here. Postmates is exactly the same, but they can also deliver you adult beverages (if you are of age) so you don't have to travel anywhere. That's can be pretty handy, especially when your throwing a party and don't want to leave. Bird and Social Bicycles are different though. Their apps are extremely easy to use in order to find their scooters or bikes. Plus, with many people without transportation this would allow people to rent electric bikes or electric scooters for a cheaper price (Bird is around 15 cents per minute and Social bikes roughly $7 for two hours). This would allow students or visitors to get around town faster on the cheap (the Bird scooters go about 15 miles an hour). There are many students who don't have cars and waiting for the bus can be a hassle.
Cons
If Postmates came into town there might be too much of a saturation already with UberEats and that could mean a very slow start for Postmates. The biggest problem with Bird and Social Bicycles is the weather. We all know Montana isn't a moderate climate and that would greatly affect them being used during the winter. Nobody really wants to be riding in the freezing cold on a scooter or bike. So this may only be a seven month a year business.
