More Montana High Schools Should Adopt This Idea For Sports
This idea would not only help Montana high schools in the long term, but it would help decrease problems.
Even though Montana high schools are done for the school year and all the kids are enjoying the summer, that doesn't mean we can't discuss how to improve for the upcoming year.
We have a radical idea that could make a massive difference in the spring sports season.
Many of Montana's high school sports dealt with snow storms and heavy rainfall this past spring. This weather caused many rainouts and delayed the start of the softball and the inaugural baseball season.
Even though this type of weather is usual for Montana, and we live with it, is there a way to deter it or get around the conditions? I think there is.
What if Montana's high schools started to install turf softball and baseball fields for their programs? This would help with drainage issues and field clean-up and would be beneficial in the long run.
Many states in the Northern United States have been making moves to install turf fields for spring sports. Turf is easy to install, and injuries aren't as common.
The only burden that many Montana high schools would have to deal with is the cost of turf. Depending on how much turf you plan on installing can get quite expensive, and the budget can get spent quickly.
The Montana High School Association should strongly consider this idea if we want to see our student-athletes succeed further. Plus, some high schools might get colored turf to share with their team colors. That would be fun.
