Great News Montanans! Our Public Lands Are Safe…For Now
How did this happen?
Montana Public Lands
We love our public lands.
Montanans are fiercely protective about a few things. We love our freedom, supporting small businesses, and enjoying our public lands.
Public lands are vital to Montanans.
Public lands are managed either federally or by the state for recreation purposes. Some examples include National Forests, National Parks, and other BLM land.
Montana is a public lands haven. We have several areas that are considered public lands that are under the care of cities, counties, or the state government.
There have been rumors that the government is selling off areas of public lands for mining or housing development, but locals have pushed back.
Many Montanans have heard stories about bills sneaking in plans to sell off public lands, and locals have been worried.
The new budget bill has some interesting details, and Montanans will be thrilled.
Montana Protected From Selling Off Public Lands
This news was quite a surprise.
The Cowboy State Daily reports that the Big Beautiful Bill has a provision that could authorize the sale of millions of acres of federal land across the Western United States, except for any land in Montana.
The money from the sale of these lands could generate revenue to help the deficit the United States is in, but Montana won't be a part of that.
Montana's Senators worked out a provision that any federal lands up for sale won't include Big Sky Country.
This move has upset several Senators in other Western states because Wyoming, Nevada, and other states have massive amounts of public lands that could be up for sale.
They don't understand why Montana is exempt from this bill.
How do you feel that Montana's public lands are secured while other states are not?
