It's that time of year again. The leaves have fallen and the temperatures have dropped it's time to adjust your clocks.  Don't recall which way to change your clock?  Just remember the saying: fall back and spring forward.

Sunday morning at 2 a.m. clocks should be moved back one hour. This means that we will be gaining an hour of sleep. Normally, having an extra hour of sleep is a bonus, but for this year we may want to ask ourselves if we really want an extra hour of 2020.

If it feels like the time change is a little earlier than normal, you're right! Every year, Daylight Savings Time starts on the second Sunday in March and ends on the first Sunday in November. This happens to be a rare year as the first Sunday happens to fall on November first.

Once we adjust our clocks back, there will be more light in the morning because sunrise and sunset will be one hour earlier.

Your phone and computer typically update automatically, but don't forget to change some of these clocks:

  • Vehicle clock
  • Alarm clock
  • Microwave
  • Thermostat
  • DVR
  • Coffee Maker
  • Oven

Daylight Savings Time or DST started in the United States back in 1918, however, there were no set rules until the Uniform Time Act of 1966. At this point, consistent dates across the US were established. The DST we know today was introduced in 2007 and complies with the Energy Policy Act of 2005. Arizona and Hawaii are the only states that do not adjust their clocks.
