Best Scenic Drives in America? Montana Has Two
If you ever need a scenic drive to clear your head and appreciate where you live, Montana is the place to be.
Montana is where road trips are some of the best vacations you can take. Driving anywhere in the state will greet you with scenery you will never forget. People travel in cars, trucks, or RVs and can see what Montana has daily.
One question that is constantly asked is where is the most scenic drive in Montana? What if we gave you two answers?
Travel Awaits made a list of The 14 Most Scenic Drives in America, and Montana had two roads deservingly land on the list. The two scenic drives picked by Travel Awaits are Going to the Sun Road in Glacier National Park and the Beartooth Highway near Red Lodge.
Going To The Sun Road in Glacier National Park was named the #9 Best Scenic Drive in America but could easily be in the Top 3. This iconic road is fifty miles long and takes about two hours, but it's worth every minute. As you drive by luscious forests and constant wildlife, the road hugs the mountainside. You can only access this road in the summer after bulldozers plow the absurd amount of snow, and you have to buy a pass to access the road these days.
Right behind Going To The Sun Road at #10 is the Beartooth Highway. Beartooth Highway is another road you can only access during the summer after the snowplows can safely clear the road. This seventy-mile stretch of road goes from Red Lodge to the East entrance of Yellowstone National Park. Don't be surprised to drive by ten-foot-high snow bluffs on the sides of the highway in mid-July. If you need a break, stop by the only summer ski resort in Montana, and get a few runs on the slopes while traveling.
Montana has other incredible scenic drives in Montana from Gates of the Mountains to Highway 35 on Flathead Lake, but Going To The Sun Road and Beartooth Highway are impeccable during the summer.
If you are planning a trip this summer or need a scenic drive to see the beauty of Montana, these two drives are the best.
