It all started January 22, 2022, when truckers came together to protest the vaccine mandate for crossing the United States border. As they continued to see success, the ultimate goal quickly changed and the movement evolved into a protest about COVID-19 mandates in general.

The Freedom Convoy will be making its way to our area this afternoon. There will be parts of I-90 that will be having delays as these truckers and their supporters line the sky to cheer them on. What areas do you need to be cautious of? Here is what you should know:

The Gallatin County Sheriff's Office is HIGHLY SUGGESTING you use an alternate route such as:

I-90 exit 299 at Airway Boulevard
Valley Center Road
Thorpe Road
Frontage Road

The heaviest delays are expected to happen between 4 and 6 pm this afternoon/evening. Many of us use this route to get to and from our homes, and with this time frame many of us will be getting off of work at the "prime time" of the Freedom Convoy, so please plan for and expect delays.

The Belgrade Police Department will be working with the Central Valley Fire District, the Gallatin County Sheriff's Office, the Montana Highway Patrol, and Gallatin County Emergency Management to make sure traffic impacts are as minimal as possible. There will also be signs put up to help navigate traffic for this event.

Will you be attending the Freedom Convoy? I do plan to be out there taking pictures and capturing the support for not only the drivers but their families and of course, America and its freedom.

LOOK: Stunning vintage photos capture the beauty of America's national parks

Today these parks are located throughout the country in 25 states and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The land encompassing them was either purchased or donated, though much of it had been inhabited by native people for thousands of years before the founding of the United States. These areas are protected and revered as educational resources about the natural world, and as spaces for exploration.
