We have seen people step onto thermals, near thermals or throw things into thermals in Yellowstone National Park but this is surely a new one.

KBZK is reporting that three men have been punished for for allegedly putting whole chickens into a thermal feature at Yellowstone National Park to cook them. The three men charged have to pay fines, do a little bit of jail time and will be banned from Yellowstone National Park for two years. This incident happened back in August of 2020.

I have so many questions about this whole ordeal. First, what gave you the idea of cooking the chicken near the thermal feature and did you get a chance to eat the chicken before you were arrested?

These are very important questions that I need answered to be honest because I just want to know the thought process on this. I just can't wrap my head around it.

Not surprising the folks that have been punished are all out of state because Montanans know for a fact you should never, ever get near any of the thermals in Yellowstone National Park. They are unstable, dangerous areas and these three people are extremely lucky nothing happened to any of them. I think they are getting off a little easy with only a two year ban.

Yellowstone National Park should be dropping heavier penalties for tourists who go off trail and harm the natural beauty of the park. That's just my personal opinion though.
