I want to start by clarifying that this is just my personal opinion. I haven't conducted a survey or done any legitimate research. I simply love French fries.

First, we need to discuss what makes a great French fry. Is it the seasoning? Are fries made from specific potatoes better than others? Is it a combination of both?

I have had a lot of French fries in many different restaurants in the Bozeman area. Some restaurants use special seasoning on their fries, which is okay, but personally I'd like to be able to still taste the potato. I've never been a fan of McDonalds fries. I always thought they were overrated.

There a many popular restaurants throughout the Gallatin Valley, and you probably hear about some of them a lot more than others. When it comes to which one has the best French fries, my choice comes from a personal experience that I had while eating lunch at the Garden Cafe in Manhattan. I live in Manhattan, and have lunch at the Garden Cafe on occasion. If you didn't know, Manhattan and the surrounding area is home to a lot of local potato farmers.

One day I stopped into the Garden Cafe for lunch. I ordered a BLT with a side of fries. When I got my food, I noticed that the French fries were hand cut and made from fresh potatoes. Out of curiosity, I asked if the potatoes used for the fries were grown in Manhattan. The waitress informed me that they were Manhattan potatoes, and that the farmer and his family were in the restaurant sitting behind me. I turned around and thanked him for his hard work, and told him that his potatoes made some excellent fries. It was a Montana experience that I'll never forget, and that's why chose the French Fries at the Garden Cafe in Manhattan as the best in the Gallatin Valley.

Like I said, this is just my personal opinion. If you have any suggestions on where to get great fries in the area, feel free to let me know. I'm always open to trying new things, especially when it comes to food.
