Most people think of the Madison River as a float trip and a cooler of drinks — not a place where you'd need to watch the bank on the way out of the water.

Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks is advising anglers that portions of the Big Hole, Beaverhead, Clark Fork, Madison, Ruby and Sun rivers, as well as the Jefferson River and Silver Bow Creek in their entirety, will be closed to all fishing daily from 2 p.m. to midnight, effective at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 10. The restrictions will stay in effect until conditions improve.

The area is temporarily closed while crews repair damage caused by a large rock.

The closure will remain in place until the dam is repaired and flows are fully restored to the Madison River.

Depending on what river you decide to float, there are things you should definitely bring along with you to ensure your trip is a good one.

Walk/wade, prohibit commercial fishing, Citizen's Day, rest-rotation and limits/caps are all phrases you'll see in the VERY important Montana Fish Wildlife and Parks survey.
