This puts a wrinkle in the spring football season for the Big Sky conference.

406 MT Sports is reporting that Big Sky Conference opponent Sacramento State is opting out of the 2021 spring football season. The school stated that the reasoning behind the decision is for the safety and health of their athletes. The short turnaround from spring season to a fall season would not be wise.

I totally understand the choice to opting out of the spring season in 2021 especially when they will play in the fall of 2021 as well.

This is the first member of the thirteen team Big Sky Conference to opt out of the 2021 spring season. Even though Montana State wasn't scheduled to play Sacramento State this fall in the original 2020 fall schedule but with the Big Sky moving to a conference only schedule, there could've been a possibility Montana State could have played them in the spring of 2021.

The Montana State Bobcats have been practicing and moving forward to getting ready for the 2021 spring season as scheduled. Plus, everyone is waiting to see when they will release the schedule for the 2021 season. The whole FCS level decided to move to a spring season of football and lowered the number of playoff teams from 24 to 16.

This whole spring season was going to be interesting with COVID-19 still rising with cases. We don't even know if we are going to have spectators at the games in the spring. Let's be honest too, spring football in Montana will be one thing and that is cold and snowy.

It's going to be an interesting football year but let's just hope we have one.
