The YouTube channel Topo Traveler put together a list of The Most Remote Locations in the Lower 48. Montana had two locations in the Top 10.
#9 on the list is the Bob Marshall Wilderness. The Bob Marshall Wilderness is an area that sits between two mountain ranges in Western Montana. This area is only accessibleby horseback or hiking. There are many natural wonders in this area that have been untouched by modern man.
#4 on the list is the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness, which encompasses parts of Idaho and Montana. This protected wilderness area is the third largest outside of Alaska and is home to one of the largest elk herds in North America.
Several national forests are a part of this space.
There are two critical things you must know about these spaces.
If you decide to travel into these areas, you will be hundreds of miles away from any stores, healthcare, and civilization.
