Montana Man Throws Fit When Opinions Differ. Is This Common?
It has come to my attention that in our wonderful town, opinions are a funny thing. We love free speech, we embrace it, EXCEPT if you don't agree with it. Make sense? I'll elaborate.
The other day I had someone ask me my opinion regarding a new business in town. So I gave my opinion, which was, "I'm guessing it will be busy, and everyone who says they will never go there, most likely will. And then they will troll the business online".
The man I was talking to told me I was absolutely wrong and basically told me how dumb I was to think that. I love a good adult tantrum. So clearly we did not share the same opinion regarding the new store. So why did he even ask my opinion if he was just gonna tell me I was wrong anyway?
My son and I were actually talking about this the other day, and I was pleasantly surprised to hear him say, "I don't think people realize that it is ok to not think like everyone else. As nice as it would be to have everyone just think alike, that would be boring". He isn't wrong. Opinions are a great way to get to know other people, see things from different perspectives, AND have a productive conversation.
This happens all of the time! For those who are close-minded and opinions are actually NOT accepted, I have included the definition of OPINON for you.
OPINION:
A view or judgment formed about something, not necessarily based on fact or knowledge. -Dicitonary.com
This seems to happen a lot in Bozeman; you see it all the time on social media. Someone asks a question and then a bunch of trolls tell them how ridiculous it is that they even asked or thought that.
When will our opinions actually stay as opinions and not turn into a political battle about who is right and who is wrong? IN MY OPINION, that won't be happening anytime soon.
It is possible to agree to disagree.
