Montana’s Sweetest Secrets: Which Candy Matches These 10 Towns?
Here we are, back to talking about candy again.
Halloween is absolutely all about the candy for many of us - young and old - and once again we'll see all kinds of reports on the most popular candy in each state, which candies people love to hate, and surveys about your favorite candy in your social media feed this month.
For example, the crew at CandyStore.com indicates Montana's top three Halloween candies are Twix, M&M's, and Double Bubble. What kind of cheapskate hands out Double Bubble? Anyway...
National candy trends are great, but let's get a little more personal. For entertainment purposes - we're only joking - here's our list of 10 Montana towns and what their official Halloween candy should be.
Billings - Candy Corn
The Magic City is candy corn because let's be honest... nobody loves Billings. I can say this because I live here (and I honestly do like it here), but all the other towns in Montana look down on us like we're some nightmarish hellhole of crime and lawlessness. They call us generic and bland. Much like candy corn.
Miles City - Slo Poke
If you'd like to go back to a way of life "the way things used to be" (what does that even mean??), then Miles City is your place. Yeah, it's fun for one week out of the year during Bucking Horse Sale. The rest of the time, yawn. An old-timey candy like Slo Poke is perfect for a cow town like MC.
Missoula - Edibles
We kid! We kid! Don't get mad, Griz Nation. Not that Missoulians could possibly work up a rage when they're chomping on those Mary Jane candies all day on their way to go mountain biking or something.
Butte - M&M's
A little crunchy on the outside, Butte is as All-American as this classic candy. It was a melting pot when the city sprang to life and of course, Butte is home to the legendary M&M Bar.
Helena - Jawbreakers
In the city where lawmakers seem to do little but talk, talk, talk, the jawbreaker represents the Capitol City perfectly. Maybe they could stick a few of these in their mouths next session.
Great Falls - Milk Duds
It's windy. It's miserable in the winter. It's far away from everything except Canada. And unless GF has changed drastically in the last few years since we last visited, the town is a real dud. Maybe they like it that way?
Bozeman - Smarties
Even the way new Bozemanites pronounce their town when they gloat talk about living there is so annoyingly smarty-pants. The candy we've selected for Bozeman is a perfect fit; Smarties are gluten-free and vegan. Like Bozeman.
Big Sky - Big Candy Bars
If the neighborhoods at the base of Lone Peak aren't handing out the ultimate score on Halloween night, we're calling BS on Big Sky. We know you guys can afford it. Cough up the full-size candy already.
Kalispell - Pop Rocks
We're not insinuating little crystals of Pop Rocks make some people think of a different kind of crystal. Nor are we generalizing a stereotype about Kalispell. Nope.
Whitefish - Sugar Daddy
While we don't have exact data to back this up (okay, we have no data) we're certain that this candy fits Whitefish like a glove.
