Popular Montana Favorite Will Be In High Demand This Weekend.
No, we're not talking about Flathead Cherries, Huckleberries, or Dixon Melons. While all three are stapes here in Montana and beloved all over the state, thousands of Montanas will be going for something a little more savory this weekend.
Today kicks off the 46th Sweet Pea Festival in Bozeman. This beloved gathering celebrates the arts through music, theatre, and of course paintings, drawings, etc. For years, folks have been coming to Bozeman to participate and check out all of the talent on display, but there's another reason folks come to Sweet Pea.
The Tater Pig.
The Tater Pig has been around a long time and each year that passes, the legend continues to grow, especially when it went missing for a year. What started over 40 years ago, has become one of the most sought-after foods of the summer in Bozeman and the surrounding communities.
For those of you new to the area, you might be asking, "What's a Tater Pig?"
A Tater Pig is a baked potato, split in half, filled with sausage, and then covered in all the good fixings like butter, sour cream, and bacon. I mean, if the thought of all that together doesn't get your mouth watering, you might want to check your pulse.
For decades the Tater Pig has been linked to The Chord Rustlers, a men's a capella group that recently went through a re-structuring and now has a new name. The 406 A Capella Project and while there might be some new faces and a new name, folks can look forward to the same ole Tater Pig.
Once again, the 46th Sweet Pea Festival kicks off today and runs through Sunday at Lindley Park.
