When people from all over move to Montana, they are typically under the impression that they will make lots of money, buy a fancy house, and ski the local spots with their dog Bridger, by their side.

Here is a bit of a news flash for anyone moving to the state with those ideas in mind, that rarely happens.

You have to have housing set up and keep in mind that the rent will most likely increase within the first year of living there. Skiing can get expensive after you take out your bill money and everyday essentials; last but not least, you should most likely have $50k set aside for "unexpected living expenses".

Unexpected living expenses such as when your internet bill randomly increases, your trash is now more than it was at the end of last year, and that dental work you had done "back home" will most likely be twice as much here. It's unfortunate, but it's true.

Many successful people are living in the state, that have been here for years and years, dealing with all the crazy increases, and the only difference between them and you, is they are making a salary that is much higher than yours and mine.

This got me thinking, what job could one get if one wanted to be the highest-paid employee in the entire state? Easy! You could become the President of the Montana State Fund.

Laurence Hubbard has been the longtime running president and CEO of the Montana State Fund. His salary is 881% higher than the average salary, which makes him the highest-paid employee in Montana.

Here is the deal, he makes a little over $340,000 annually. Yes, that is a lot, but if that is the highest-paid employee, what the heck is everyone else, who holds such a highly respected title making? I honestly thought he would be making much more. That is just my opinion.
