This might get under the skin of some Griz fans, but we need to be realistic about what could happen.

The Bobcats choked in the FCS playoffs, but another team from Montana has made a significant run and has a chance of making the FCS National Championship. That would be the Bobcat's rival, the University of Montana Grizzlies.

The Montana Grizzlies had a tremendous season and won the Big Sky Conference. They received the #2 seed in the FCS Playoffs and have had some up-and-down games. In the round of 16, the Griz handily beat Delaware, but in the Quarterfinals, the Griz had a hard-fought battle against Furman and won in overtime.

Now the Griz are in the semi-finals and face one of the hottest teams in the playoffs, the North Dakota State Bison, who beat the Bobcats on a blocked PAT in overtime. If the Griz win, they will face the winner of last year's champion, South Dakota State, and the University of Albany. The Bison are a 1.5-point favorite heading into Washington-Grizzly Stadium on Saturday, but the game will be a tough battle.

Griz fans have high hopes, but we have other thoughts. Here are five reasons why the Griz won't win Saturday or the FCS National Championship.

  1. The Bison are on a hot streak. They had a tough battle against the Bobcats, but the Bison have destroyed the other two teams they've faced in the playoffs.
  2. The Bison know how to win in hostile environments. The Bison won in Bozeman and South Dakota with big home crowds, and the Griz stadium will be the same. The Bison will come prepared for the battle.
  3. The Bison has too much talent. Even though the Griz has talent on both sides of the ball, the Bison has NFL-ready talent everywhere. Having top-tier prospects can make a huge difference in a game.
  4. The Griz are known to choke. The Griz tend to fall short against teams they should beat and have struggled in games in recent years. The Griz blew it against Northern Arizona earlier this season and barely beat a Division 2 team. This will be a massive game for them.
  5. The Griz offense isn't consistent enough. All the teams the Griz will face have defenses that can stop teams in their tracks. The Griz offense is sporadic at times when facing top defenses.

Sorry to burst your bubble Griz fans.

The Griz play the Bison on Saturday, December 16th, at 2:30 PM on ESPN2.
