Duncan Jones Has Some Words About Why He Thinks Green Lantern Is ‘Dumb’
Duncan Jones (Moon, Source Code, Warcraft) is not directing the Green Lantern Corps movie, but that doesn’t mean he doesn’t have something to say about it. The director took to Twitter today to share his opinion of the hero and how he would make him better. His solution: make him dumb.
These tweets prompted the usual amount of comic fans’ outraged “NOBODY ASKED YOU” responses, but to be honest I kind of love this idea. The 2011 Green Lantern wasn’t a great movie for many, many reasons, and in part because everything Hal came up with was so dull. A fighter jet to pull Parallax into the sun? Really? Okay, yeah, he’s a fighter pilot, but still. Couldn’t he conjure up a sweet-looking rocket or something?
And can you imagine the hilarity of the rest of the Green Lantern Corps realizing that they’re stuck with this tool and have to teach him how to use his imagination?
TOMAR-RE: Your enemy stands before you. What do you do?
HAL JORDAN: Drop an Acme anvil on him, idk.
TOMAR RE (placing head in hands): Oh my god.
If Jones thinks Green Lantern is dumb, it’s probably good that he’s not directing the upcoming movie. Warner Bros. probably won’t take these suggestions for their planned “Lethal Weapon in space” jaunt, but it’s fun to laugh about anyway.
In brightest day, in darkest night, bro.
