Ryan Murphy’s American FX future got a major shot in the arm this week, between announcement of a Season 7 Horror theme and the major players of Versace Crime, and we’re already looking ahead to the Lewsinsky season of American Crime Story. Sarah Paulson is of course eyed for a role, in what might be her most transformative look yet.

Speaking on Watch What Happens Live, Murphy went farther than revealing the American Horror Story Season 7 theme to tease that abstract casting for a Crime Story season based on the Monica Lewinsky scandal has begun. No one came to mind for Hillary Clinton (Lewinsky is likely to go to an unknown), though Murphy has expressed interest in having Sarah Paulson play Lewinsky’s friend/wiretapper Linda Tripp:

I’m very interested and have talked to my good friend … Sarah Paulson about playing Linda Tripp, so we’ll see if she agrees to do that because I always think of Sarah for everything.

Intriguingly, Murphy claimed the Clintons themselves might not have a major role in the as-yet-unscheduled season, which is more “about the birth of a specific movement in our country” than the players themselves. The series will draw from Jeffrey Toobin’s book A Vast Conspiracy: The Real Sex Scandal That Nearly Brought Down a President, just as Toobin’s The Run of His Life served as inspiration for The People v. O.J. Simpson.

Seasons 2 and 3 will shoot over the course of 2017, but when should we expect fuller details for a Lewinsky season of American Crime Story? Can you see Sarah Paulson made up to look like Linda Tripp?
