Way back in 2012 (or at least it feels way back), Netflix and Disney struck a deal for all of Disney’s movies — including Marvel, Pixar and Lucasfilm — to stream exclusively on Netflix Instant. According to the terms of their agreement, the deal wouldn’t kick in until 2016, which just so happens to be the year in which we are currently living. As announced today, Netflix will officially begin streaming Disney films in September, but that doesn’t mean the studio’s entire library will magically appear in your Instant browser.
After months of speculation and shortlists featuring everyone from Miles Teller to Taron Egerton, it looks like we may have a frontrunner for the role of young Han Solo in Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s Star Wars prequel / spinoff. Alden Ehrenreich, the charming breakout star of the Coen brothers’ Hail, Caesar! has reportedly emerged as the top pick, edging out his fellow Han Solo hopefuls for the highly-coveted role.
The Rogue One: A Star Wars Story trailer will make its big-screen debut next month in theaters with Captain America: Civil War. Star Wars: The Force Awakens had a lasting impact on pop culture in many ways. And now, according to a new report, it also has had an impact on family culture as well. We know who’s playing Indiana Jones; the old Indiana Jones, Harrison Ford. But the old Han Solo is not playing Han Solo in the upcoming movie about the famous smuggler’s exploits in the days before Episode IV - A New Hope. So who will it be? Who will argue with Chewbacca and pilot the Millennium Falcon and wear a very roguish vest?
Phil Lord and Chris Miller’s young Han Solo movie won’t arrive in theaters until 2018, which means we have quite a bit of time before we see anything concrete from the Star Wars spinoff. Lucasfilm hasn’t even announced who will play the young version of Harrison Ford’s iconic character — much less who or what else we might see in the film. We now know of at least one other character who will appear opposite whoever ends up piloting the Millennium Falcon, and it’s a friendly, furry face you’ll be quite happy to see.
Star Wars: The Force Awakens is set to hit DVD and Blu-ray on April 5, but if you can’t wait that long, we’ve got good news. Like many big Hollywood releases, Star Wars is coming to iTunes early. You’ll be able to download The Force Awakens on March 15 with special features, including seven new deleted scenes.
The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 was a big show. Idina Menzel sang “Let It Go.” Elton John sang a hit or two from The Lion King in the shadow of Sleeping Beauty’s Castle. But for a particular kind of movie fan, the highlight of the night was an appearance by Harrison Ford (who, mercifully, did not sing) introducing what he called “The Star Wars Experience.” Those are the massive Star Wars worlds coming soon to Disneyland and Walt Disney World, and the show featured some of the first looks at concept art and animation from the upcoming attractions.
Enjoy a sampling of Kylo-centric fan written tales, in which he romances Suicide Squad anti-hero Harley Quinn and lets you know you're kind of a sloppy eater.
As Star Wars: The Force Awakens continues its Napoleonic march to complete all-time box-office domination (today: Avatar, tomorrow: the world!), Lucasfilm has faithfully backed the film property up with the requisite deluge of merchandising tie-ins...
