Disney’s Live-Action ‘Mulan’ Might Have Songs After All

Last week, the Internet entered into something of a panic when it was announced that Niki Caro, the director of the live-action Mulan remake, didn’t have any songs planned for the movie. For those of you who were bereft at the thought of no “I’ll Make a Man Out of You” army training/dance number, don’t freak out yet. While there aren’t any songs in the script right now, that doesn’t mean there won’t be any at all.

Director Brett Ratner Says Rotten Tomatoes Is the ‘Destruction’ of the Movie Business, Criticism Is Dead

With the rise of digital platforms and social media, the state of writing that originated in print was bound to change. We don’t pick up a newspaper anymore to look for movie showtimes, and we certainly don’t wait till the Sunday edition drops on our doorstep to read the latest reviews. Most American audiences want immediate, digestible analyses of the art they consume, and nowadays that means checking a movie’s Rotten Tomatoes score before forking out cash. For director and producer Brett Ratner though, the review aggregation website is biggest evil in the entertainment industry.

In case you didn’t get the hint of the dark and dangerous creatures that lurk on other planets, this new poster will remind you.

There Is So Much Cyber in the First Five Minutes of ‘Ghost in the Shell’

One thing’s for sure about the new Ghost in the Shell movie: There’s gonna be a whole lot of cyber. Cybercrime, cyber-people, there all is cyber. The plot hinges around, among other things, an android with a human mind investigating a string of brain-hacking crimes that leads her to a bunch of realizations about the nature of consciousness and humanity. Ghost in the Shell imagines a world where the line between human and machine is blurred almost to the point of nonexistence, with corporations selling body-augmentation technology amongst colleagues at fancy dinners. That’s where the opening of the movie finds Major, played by Scarlett Johansson, surveilling a corporate meeting that goes terribly wrong.

Faster Than a Speeding #2, the ‘Captain Underpants’ Trailer Is Here

There’s no arguing that superheroes currently own the cineplex, but in a slight change of pace, one of this upcoming summer’s cape-clad defenders won’t hail from the pages of Marvel or DC. Kids (and nostalgia fetishists in their mid-to-late twenties) will get a colorful crimefighter of a different stripe with Captain Underpants, the computer-animated adaptation of Dav Pilkey’s long-running line of sophomoric chapter books about a delusional elementary school principal’s adventures in doo-doo derring-do. The first trailer hit the internet today, and if you were wondering if it contains the same Steve Aoki club banger as the War Dogs trailer, then have I got some good news for you!

The New ‘Power Rangers’ Boasts Cinema’s First Queer Superhero

This past week, Beauty and the Beast raised quite a few public eyebrows (mostly in Malaysia) with its so-called ‘exclusively gay moment,’ in which Josh Gad’s LeFou fleetingly reveals that he like-likes Gaston. While this was not breaking news to any gaydar-equipped viewers of the 1991 original, it still made quite a splash online, with conservative voices objecting to the homosexual agenda imposing on innocent kids' entertainment and progressives leaning the other way, calling for a more meaningful expression of queer identity than a three-second glimpse of two men waltzing.

Mark Hamill Shares Another Photo From the First ‘Star Wars’ Shoot that Lucasfilm Kept Hidden for Years

Mark Hamill, like many stars who enjoy sharing glimpses of the days before they finally made it big, enjoys posting the occasional photo or two from the sets of Star Wars. Just a few days ago, he shared what might very well be the first ever photo taken of Luke Skywalker in costume out in the middle of the Tunisian desert. Today, another early photo of himself as the young Jedi was unearthed, and Hamill pointed out that Lucasfilm was not keen on letting the public see it for years.

‘Mission: Impossible 6’ Producer Says Tom Cruise Has Been Training for ‘Mind-Blowing’ Stunt for a Year

Watching the Mission: Impossible movies is like watching Tom Cruise engage in a series of escalating dares. Like the Fast and the Furious franchise, each new M:I movie features an increasingly bonkers stunt scene, made all the more impressive by Cruise’s dedication to performing his own stunts (or as much of them as humanly possible). It’s hard to imagine how Cruise and returning writer / director Christopher McQuarrie will outdo Rogue Nation’s riveting plane sequence, but according to the producer of Mission: Impossible 6, they have something “mind-blowing” up their sleeves. How mind-blowing? Well, Cruise has been training for the stunt for a whole year.
