2011 MTV Video Music Awards Return To Los Angeles – Music, Celebrity, Artist News | MTV
Doesn’t usually matter to me where the VMAs go down but I guess LA is just as good a place as any to have a party. My only hope is that they keep the performances dope and the artists perform the songs that they are nominated for. It confuses me when an artist uses the spot to play a new song that no one has heard before? But maybe that’s just me.
Make it two in a row. After putting down roots in Los Angeles last year, the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards will return to the City of Angels on August 28 for the 28th annual celebration. The show will air live from the Nokia Theatre at L.A. Live venue at 9 p.m. (ET/PT).
“We are thrilled to return to Los Angeles where the energy of the city will help power the creative spirit of the 28th annual VMAs,” MTV president Stephen Friedman said in a statement. “The city is the perfect backdrop for all the musical moments, mayhem and magic that make the VMAs such a notorious celebration.”
The 2010 VMAs posted the best ratings for the show since 2002, highlighted by much-anticipated performances by Taylor Swift (who debuted her song “Innocent,” which addressed 2009′s Kanye West incident) and West himself, who also debuted a new song, the raunchy “Runaway.” The show also featured performances by Eminem with Rihanna, Drake and Best New Artist winner Justin Bieber, B.o.B with Hayley Williams, Florence and the Machine, and Linkin Park, plus a pre-show appearance by Nicki Minaj and Black Eyed Peas mastermind will.i.am. Host Chelsea Handler kept the night humming along with some classic bits, including a skit with Lindsay Lohan and the first-ever appearance of a hot tub on the VMA stage.
And, oh yeah, did we mention Lady Gaga’s infamous meat dress?
“We are proud to host the MTV Video Music Awards in Los Angeles, the creative capital of the world. And we look forward to showcasing our city’s exciting new downtown entertainment attractions,” said Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa of the show’s return to his city.
