Lady Gaga has earned her rep for lighting up the red carpet with splashy awards show ensembles, and during the leadup to this year’s MTV VMAs, the network promised more of the same with a #whatwillgagawear Twitter hashtag.
As it turns out, the VMAs were opened by none other than her sideburned alter ego, Jo Calderone, who started things off by launching into a profane tirade about the end of his relationship with … Lady Gaga.
When Lady Gaga — in drag as her male alter-ego, Gaga’s boyfriend Jo Calderone — brought Britney Spears onstage to present her the Michael Jackson Video Vanguard award, there were a few moments in which everyone wondered if Brit would re-enact her famous 2003 kiss with Madonna by planting one on Gaga as well.
Ladies ruled at the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards: Beyonce’s pregnancy announcement was the big news of the night, Lady Gaga opened the show in style (and in drag) and Katy Perry took home top honors, winning Video of the Year for ‘Firework.’
Beyonce Knowles announced that she’s expecting her first child with husband Jay-Z on the black carpet of the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards Sunday night. Arriving in a flowy, Grecian-inspired orange frock, Knowles pulled back the material and showed off her sizable bump to the delight of the crowd.
The stars turned out on the red carpet — or should we say black carpet? — for the 2011 MTV Video Music Awards at the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles. Celebs included Justin Bieber, who rocked a pair of scholarly specs, and Jessie J, who rocked a pair of bedazzled crutches and a cast (the singer sprained her foot at a recent live show).
The MTV Video Music Awards, which air live on Sunday, will be missing an important part of the traditional award show experience: a host.
What could possibly make this year’s VMAs better for Lil Wayne fans? Well, not only is the rapper going to be performing during the ceremony, but he also announced that he will release ‘Tha Carter IV’ to all digital retailers, including iTunes and Amazon, at midnight following the VMAs, which will air this Sunday on MTV.
Every year the MTV VMAs always have spectacular performances, crazy outfits and of course our favorite singers, but this year, the ceremony is adding some spice by adding a new category: Best Video With a Message.
According to MTV, it “celebrates the union between music and social activism, and highlights artists who created music videos that made us think about the world around us.”
Doesn't usually matter to me where the VMAs go down but I guess LA is just as good a place as any to have a party. My only hope is that they keep the performances dope and the artists perform the songs that they are nominated for. It confuses me when an artist uses the spot to play a new song that no one has heard before? But maybe that's just me.
