Nothing is better on 4th of July than hanging out with friends on a beautiful day and enjoying fireworks and delicious BBQ.

This year though, you might have to pony up a bit more money if you want to buy meat.

KBZK is reporting that due to the COVID-19 pandemic, meat prices have gone up sharply this past month.

Everything from ground beef to steaks and even pork products have gone up in the past year.

Ground beef and steaks are the highest bought items during the 4th of July.

That's brutal especially for folks who do big 4th of July BBQ's and cook many hot dogs and burgers on the grill.

If you are wondering why the prices of beef has gone up recently, the Bureau of Labor Statistics said it's due to many meat plants are shut down or slowly reopening with fewer workers.

That's a huge problem. With fewer meat plants operating that means less product is reaching the population and that causes shortages and meat prices to soar.

So if you are planning on having a BBQ this 4th of July you might want to stock up on meat and freeze it before stores run out of many items.

Or you could try something new and grill some Beyond Burgers or Impossible meat instead.

No matter what, make sure if you are going to a BBQ or hosting one to be safe and have the best time ever.
