Back in December, at the 2016 Mnet Asian Music Awards (MAMAs), Girls' Generation's Taeyeon and Blacc Hollywood rapper Wiz Khalifa were due to hit the stage together to perform a very special cross-cultural rendition of Wiz's smash hit "See You Again," originally recorded with Charlie Puth.

Despite even a rehearsal video popping up at the time, however, the performance never actually happened — and the two artists used their social media accounts immediately after the show to explain the situation (and/or vent) to fans.

"The fact that Teyeon [sic] backed out of our performance caught me off guard too but never accept rejection as failure," Wiz dismissed the botched collaboration on Twitter. Fans were angry — not to mention he didn't even spell her name correctly — until Taeyeon provided her side of the story on Instagram.

“I heard that there was a problem with the music that was going to be used for the broadcast, so I couldn’t do a proper sound check and we couldn’t do the performance is really regrettable," she wrote in a Story.

Taeyeon then went on to explain that the wrong version of the song was prepared for broadcast, even though she was still ready to take the stage in spite of that — but it got cancelled anyway due to technical issues: "A few hours before the show, I found out that our stage got canceled and there were some unexpected turn of events due to the event being held overseas. I heard that there were issues with the performance equipment the day prior to the show as well as during rehearsal."

But, hey! All is not lost: the official studio version of what would have been the duo's performance has finally arrived, courtesy of a Minneapolis radio station.

Following a trip to South Korea, Go 95.3's DJ Bonics dropped the exclusive this week. Taeyeon sounds great singing the song's chorus — that incessant Go 95.3 radio tag aside! It really does underscore what a shame it is that the two couldn't perform the song live.

Oh, well. Surely they'll see each other again. Listen below.
