How did I celebrate my July 4th weekend? I went and saw a movie that symbolizes America. That movie was The Purge Election Year.

OK, maybe symbolizes America is a little harsh. It's still a great movie, though. This the third film in the series starting with The Purge and then The Purge Anarchy. These films have set up a great story and this idea. If you don't know, in the near future, America installs a day where for 12 hours all crime is legal, including murder. What makes this movie different from the others is it's during the election year where one candidate wants to get rid of the purge. Why does she want to get rid of the purge? Well 18 years ago she was the only one in her family to survive and has made it her mission to get rid of this horrible holiday.

I love how each one of these films up the ante on the craziness. The first film is solely located in a house, the second one is in Los Angeles, and this one is in Washington D.C. How is it crazier? Well because this might be the last purge ever, people fly in from all over the world to get their taste of the purge and see what it feels like. The instinct to survive is felt and just how depraved some of these people are and wanting to purge.

I loved this movie, especially the ending when they the song "I'm Afraid of Americans" by David Bowie started to play. I may have chuckled a little. Definitely check it out in theaters and go with some friends. Rating: 4/5 . Purge and purify!
