‘The Hobbit’ Soundtrack — What Does It Tell Us About ‘An Unexpected Journey’?
'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey,' the first film in Peter Jackson's 'Hobbit' trilogy, is hitting theaters in just a month and a half now, and that means it's time for more promotional goodies to start popping out, including the official track list for 'The Hobbit' soundtrack. Back in the summer when Warner Bros. released the 'Dark Knight Rises' soundtrack list, it gave us some hints at what we could expect to see in the film. So, with the one for 'An Unexpected Journey' now available, what does it reveal about Bilbo and his band of merry dwarfs?
One of the first major posters revealed for 'The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey' a couple months back was a scrolling banner that revealed -- or was thought to reveal -- seven scenes from the first film, beginning with Gandalf's arrival at The Shire and ending with the troupe floating down river in empty crates. However, Peter Jackson revealed that some scenes from the book originally planned for the first film have been moved to later parts of the trilogy, the encounter with all those spiders being one.
What are some characters and scenes we can expect from 'An Unexpected Journey,' then? According to some of the tracks on the official soundtrack (released to Fandango), we'll definitely be seeing some of those wargs -- in J.R.R. Tolkien's novel, wargs are an intelligent and larger race of wolves who are in cahoots with the goblins in tracking down Bilbo. Other creatures we'll be seeing are the Trollshaws (the upland woods), the Orc Chieftan Bolg (hinted at by the tack titled "The Defiler"), and Radagast the Brown (one of the other wizards who came to Middle Earth with Gandalf).
