Once you become a parent, things like school districts, neighborhood safety, and activities for kids become a big factor. In other words, you want to live in a place that is family-friendly.

For a lot of folks, this might mean leaving the hustle and bustle of city life behind and heading to someplace a little quieter. Suburbs and small towns suddenly look a whole lot more attractive once you have a family of your own.

Most Montanans, if they're being honest will tell you that Montana is a wonderful place to raise a family. The state is filled with schools, colleges, and universities. There is plenty to do all year long, especially in the outdoors, and with the exception of a couple of spots, crime is low and under control.

Education and Childcare
Affordability
Socioeconomics

The thing that really hurt Montana was affordability, as the state ranks 46th out of 50 when it comes to that category. The other area that we scored somewhat low would be family fan, coming in at 34th.

Although, I would disagree with that assessment. There are a ton of things to do in Montana that are fun, many of them just require you to be outside and out in nature. The truth is Montana isn't for everyone and that's just fine.

It takes a certain mindset and character to live here, it's a place where there is a sense of adventure mixed with folks that are ready and willing to help their neighbors, even if they don't know them. Yes, Montana is one of a kind, and for those of us that live here, we'd like to keep it that way.
