X-Men: Days of Future Past was great; X-Men: Apocalypse was kind of meh. But in both cases the highlight was the same: Quicksilver, played by Evan Peters performing an incredible super-speed rescue (filmed in super slo-motion with cool music and lots of effects.

Almost every day, adult comic book fans are reminded that they live in a world they could never imagined as kids. A big-budget Wonder Woman movie? A Deadpool sequel? Suicide Squad is one of the biggest franchises in the world? It’s really unbelievable.

Many fans of Bryan Singer’s 2000 X-Men movie know that Dougray Scott was originally cast in the role of Wolverine before bowing out due to scheduling conflicts with Mission: Impossible 2. That being said, it’s Russell Crowe’s connection to the film that make for the most interesting bit of Hollywood trivia. As the story goes, Crowe was Singer’s first choice to play Wolverine, but the actor passed, suggesting instead that the filmmaker look at fellow Australian Hugh Jackman. The rest, as they say, is history.

As promised, Marvel’s FOX mutant drama The Gifted is making a very public display of its power. The first full trailer for Bryan Singer’s X-Men TV series has arrived, name-dropping both its movie mutants and the Brotherhood.

After more than a year of rumors, hints and reports, Anya Taylor-Joy and Maisie Williams have officially joined the cast of New Mutants, one of a few upcoming projects set within the X-Men universe. The Fault in Our Stars director Josh Boone has long been attached to helm the project, teasing the Game of Thrones star’s potential involvement as recently as February. It’s another big step forward for New Mutants, which joins X-Force and Channing Tatum’s on again / off again Gambit movie in Fox’s lineup of forthcoming mutant spinoffs.

Just when you thought it crazy enough a Deadpool movie blew away the competition, the Merc With a Mouth is coming to TV as well. FXX will host a new “adult” animated comedy for the fourth wall-breaking hero, executive produced by none other than Donald Glover.

Out with the old X-Men, in with the new. Neither DC nor fully Marvel, the odd-duck X-Men cinematic franchise has been in the process of reinventing itself over the past couple installments by gradually integrating its past and present. I mean that literally — through a whole heap of time-travel tomfoolery, the original X-People we came to know during the original trilogy of films in the early ’00s have been commingled with the new generation of throwback X-Folks as shown in the ’60s, ’70s and ’80s in First Class, Days of Future Past, and Apocalypse. The chronology can be a lot to swallow, and it’s about to get even more confusing: we may now have two Rogues.

The exact title of FOX’s Bryan Singer-directed X-Men drama hasn’t officially been Gifted to us, but production is nonetheless underway. Producers have shared a new still from the mysterious mutant drama, featuring at least two familiar faces.

Only two episodes remain in FX’s Legion after tonight, at least for this year. Yes, David Haller and his merry band of mutants will be back for Season 2 in 2018, and your head is already hurting just thinking about it.

Logan is understandably geared toward saying goodbye to Hugh Jackman’s Wolverine moreso than Patrick Stewart’s Charles Xavier, but there’s a certain finality to this chapter of the X-Men universe regardless. Stewart in particular is open to the idea of returning for a Deadpool sequel, but perhaps more pressingly, now says he’d be willing to drop by FX’s Legion.

When Logan finally fades to black, it brings Hugh Jackman’s 17-year run as Wolverine to a close. It is an emphatic and definitive ending, not just to Jackman’s Wolverine series, but also to the X-Men franchise as a whole.
