Should Bozeman Build A New Swim Center?
We have one building in mind that might be an asset to Bozeman.
The Bozeman Daily Chronicle reported about the Bozeman Swim Center and how the center is understaffed and in high demand. If you don't know, the Bozeman Swim Center is the only indoor 50-meter pool in the Bozeman area and was built in the 1970s. The swim center has been closed due to repairs and renovations this summer.
The only other public pool in the Bozeman area is Bogert Pool, but it's smaller than the Bozeman Swim Center. Bogert Pool is limited because it's an outdoor pool and can only be open during the summer. The report had us thinking, what if the City of Bozeman built another indoor pool?
With the Bozeman population growing consistently every year, it's evident that another indoor public pool is needed for the public. The Bozeman Swim Center is slammed during the winter with swim races, training, and activities. That means there is limited time for the public to enjoy the pool.
So where would we propose to build a brand new swim center in the Bozeman area? It would make a lot of sense to build one near the Gallatin High School. Lots of new homes are under construction around the school, and having a swim center in a populated area makes sense. Plus, there is land here to construct one.
The only downside to this idea is that the project would take a few years, and until Bozeman figures out the current staffing problem, a new swim center wouldn't make sense to build.
