Unique Montana Movie Will Be Preserved For Generations
This movie is a film everyone in Montana should watch.
The National Film Registry
Do you know what this is?
We all love watching movies.
Movies come in all different styles, budgets, and entertainment values.
Movies have been around for over 100 years. Films have drastically evolved with special effects, cameras, and other technical aspects, but they can still help us laugh, cry, and cheer.
To preserve iconic films, the National Film Registry was created.
The National Film Registry is a collection of films preserved for its historical, cultural, or aesthetic contribution.

Every year, the National Film Registry chooses 25 films to preserve.
Some movies preserved since its inception include Gone With The Wind, The Hurt Locker, and Boyz In The Hood.
The National Film Registry announced their list for 2024, and one Montana movie made the list.
Montana Film Makes 2024's National Film Registry
Before The National Film Registry announced its 2024 list recently, the only movie from Montana was Dances With Wolves.
Montana now has two movies.
The 2024 list included films like The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, The Social Network, and Beverly Hills Cop, but one movie needs to be on your radar.
That movie is Powwow Highway.
This independent film from the late 80s delves into what Montana Native American communities deal with daily.
The movie featured mostly unknown actors.
The only actors with any notoriety were Academy Award-nominated Graham Greene(Dances With Wolves) and Wes Studi(Last of the Mohicans).
The film won multiple awards at Sundance and the Independent Spirit Awards.
Powwow Highway is a movie that hits close to home and is still relevant today.
