Pitbull Orchestrating the Original Score for John Travolta’s ‘Gotti’ Biopic
Pitbull is diversifying his talent by getting into the film business. The Grammy Award-winning artist has been tapped to score his first movie - Gotti, a biopic starring John Travolta as the infamous New York mob boss John Gotti.
According to Hollywood Reporter, Pitbull (real name Armando Christian Perez) has written and performed an original song for the film called “Amore,” which will appear at the end of the film.
Gotti, directed by Kevin Connolly (of Entourage fame), will premiere at a private screening at the Cannes Film Festival on May 15. The movie chronicles the rise and fall of the late mob boss who died while incarcerated at the age of 61 in 2002.
Although Pitbull is known for making music in the pop, hip-hop and EDM markets, he was eager to spread his musical palette and explore film scoring.
"It's a true honor to be involved with this project and working with icon John Travolta on the legendary story of Gotti," Pitbull said in a statement. "By default, we were underdogs in our own right and found ways to survive against all odds."
Travolta concurred and is grateful for Pitbull's musical contributions to the film.
“Music has played an integral part in the success of some of my biggest films, and Armando is one of the most electric talents in the music industry today," he said. "Everything about him — his style, creativity, and culture — make his scoring of Gotti the perfect marriage of the artist and the material.”
While Gotti marks Pitbull's debut as a film composer, it's not the first time he has penned a song for a film. The 37-year-old rapper wrote and produced the theme song for Men in Black 3, "Back in Time."
Gotti will open in theaters on June 15.
