One Skier Dead in Bridger Range Avalanche

Authorities have identified 36-year-old Peter Lazar of Bozeman as the victim of Tuesday's avalanche.

On Tuesday afternoon, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Gallatin County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue, Bridger Ski Patrol, Gallatin National Forest Avalanche Center and Central Helicopters responded to an avalanche on the west side of the Bridger Mountain Range.
A skier was caught in the avalanche on the west side of the Bridger Range, at the top of Truman Gulch on a run called St. Lawrence. Two skiers in the area observed the avalanche and were able to quickly respond and locate the victim after he was carried nearly 1,000 vertical feet.
Although the two witnesses were able to quickly locate the skier caught in the avalanche, the male victim died at the scene.
The victim is reportedly a 36-year-old Bozeman man.
His identity is being withheld until next of kin can be notified.
