One of Montana State’s Opponents to Leave Big Sky
We could see the Big Sky Conference lose one of the more tough opponents for sports to a bigger conference soon.
406 MT Sports is reporting that the Western Athletic Conference, also known as The WAC, has sent an offer to Southern Utah to join their conference and the school is considering it.
The Western Athletic Conference is trying to bolster their football opponents so they can receive an automatic bid in the Football Championship System and Southern Utah would help their cause. They are a team that is always competitive and has made the FCS playoffs multiple times it the past ten years. So they would be great addition to the Western Athletic Conference.
What does this mean for the Big Sky Conference? Well, it wouldn't really change much. That would take the football opponents for Montana State Bobcats down from thirteen to twelve and would take away a nice, short opponent away from the Bobcats. What this could do though is separate the Big Sky Conference into a West and East divisions and they could add a conference championship game.
That would make things even more exciting for the Big Sky Conference. Could you imagine Montana State hosting the Big Sky Championship game. It would be absolutely thrilling, especially if it was against one of our biggest foes.
Nothing is for sure yet for Southern Utah but I have a feeling they might lean towards leaving the conference due to the Big Sky being one of the most, if not the most, competitive leagues in the FCS.
