Montana State’s Football Season Has One Big Shakeup
We are three months away from the football season starting, and there's a big schedule shakeup.
The summer is starting, but many locals are looking forward to the start of football season.
If you live in the Gallatin Valley area, the one team everyone cheers and celebrates every Saturday is the Montana State Bobcats. The Bobcats have been one of the best teams in the nation for several years, and people pay top dollar to go to the games.
The 2024 season kicks off on August 24th with an away game against New Mexico State, but there has been a massive shakeup to the 2024 schedule.
MSU's Athletic Director Leon Costello announced Montana State will no longer play Stephen F. Austin in 2024 or 2025.
The Bobcats were to play Stephen F. Austin in Bozeman on Saturday, September 21st, and in Texas in 2025.
Why did this happen so suddenly?
It could be that Stephen F. Austin is leaving the Western Athletic Conference for the Southland Conference in 2024, but those are just rumors.
What are the Bobcats to do?
The good news is they already have a replacement team to fill that slot.
Montana State will face off against Mercyhurst University on Saturday, September 21st. Mercyhurst is an FCS school on the east coast and finished the season 2-9 last year.
It's disappointing that this happened, but we praise the athletic department at Montana State for finding a quick solution.
Montana State will have to find a new nonconference opponent for their 2025 schedule, but they have some time to fill that slot.
