Sometimes a locally owned grocery store has so much character and is a piece of that town's history and this place definitely is.

Love Food via MSN made a list of Every State's Top Independently Owned Grocery Store and I had to look at this list because Montana is filled with independent grocery stores that have been operating for years.

The top independently owned grocery store is Real Food Market & Deli in Helena, Montana. This grocery store has been opened for almost fifty years and is focused on healthy choices for Montanans. Plus, they also carry Montana-only produce and meat which is pretty cool to think about it.

My parents would go here every time they would visit my brother and sister when they were going to Carroll College. They loved this store and sung their praises for their great selection of fresh produce and they loved their deli. My parents miss this grocery store to this day.

If you don't want to travel all the way to Helena don't worry, the Gallatin Valley has some great locally owned and operated grocery stores too. First off, there is Heeb's Fresh Market up by the hospital. Their grocery store has been in Bozeman since 1947 and is classic.

Then there is Town & Country Foods, my personal favorite and has been serving southwest Montana since 1966. Their store on the MSU Campus has the best deli in the Gallatin Valley hands down and their selection of meat and produce is always fresh.
