This will be another exciting opportunity for more student athletes to compete at the collegiate level.

406 MT Sports is reporting that Montana Tech University in Butte, Montana will add track and field for both men's and women's varsity sports in 2022. The addition of track and field comes after Montana Tech just completed their inaugural year of having cross-country.

Montana Tech will compete in the Frontier Conference for track and field and now that they are adding track and field, that leaves only Montana State Unvivesity Northern as the only school in the conference without a track and field sports program. They will compete against colleges such as Carroll College, U of M Western, Rocky Mountain College, and University of Providence.

This gives runners from cross country to compete year round now and also gives more opportunities for other student athletes to compete at the NAIA level and earn scholarships. Especially for so many Montana athletes that might not get as much exposure but can compete at the collegiate levels.

Plus, track and field athletes will have an advantage traning in Butte. With their altitude they will be well conditioned and will bring on all challengers who haven't competed at a high elevation.

It's great to see that even though sports is slowly getting back to normal that Montana Tech has been making moves and adding sports to their varsity programs and not taking away sports. That's a great sight to see.
