A recent survey has revealed that Montana is one of the drunkest states in America during the holiday season.

Sunrisehouse.com conducted the survey with 3,000 participants over the age over 21. From the survey, they found that the average American consumes 27% more alcohol during the holidays.

Montana ranks in the top 5 when it comes to America's drunkest states. Using data from the survey, they found that the average Montanan consumes five alcoholic beverages per day during the holiday season. The drunkest state in America is North Dakota, according to the survey. That's really, as there isn't much else to do in North Dakota during the winter months. New Jersey landed at the number two spot, and Montana, Wisconsin, and Nebraska tied for third.

1 in 4 of the participants surveyed said that they drink stronger liquor during the holidays, choosing hard alcohol over beer and wine.

Personally, I don't drink much, but I have some friends that definitely drink more than five alcoholic beverages per day. Due to health restrictions in Gallatin County, businesses and bars have to close at 10:00 p.m., resulting in more people drinking at home.

It's no surprise that people drink more during the holidays, after all, tis' the season to be jolly. If you do decide to spike your eggnog, or overdose on hot chocolate bombs, please don't drink and drive. Unfortunately, Montana has one of the highest fatality rates in the nation for the number of deaths caused by impaired drivers. According to the CDC, in 2019, 1.9% of Americans have reported driving after drinking too much. In Montana, 3.4% of residents admit to getting behind the wheel after drinking to much.

Stay safe this holiday season, and please don't drink and drive.
