Michael Franti and Spearhead will be performing live at Big Sky for the 2012 Spruce Moose in just over a couple of weeks! We can't wait to hear Michael Franti's hits, 'Say Hey (I love you)' and 'The Sound of Sunshine.' Franti's songs are full of love and inspiration.  Following a near death experience, the singer confessed much of his music today is influenced by his gratefulness of every waking moment.

In 2009, Michael Franti's appendix burst and landed him in the hospital. The singer admitted he was truly scared for his life. Luckily the front man made a healthy recovery and as a result, Franti isn't taking anything for granted. Franti is aiming to spread this new outlook to the world through his music.

Michael Franti is quoted in an article by Cathy Carter saying,

"I want to have the ability to inspire somebody to wake up in the morning and make breakfast for their kids, get them all in the car for school, then go to work, come home and still have enough love and energy to care about the world beyond themselves."

It's this attitude that makes for a great pop song that can really inspire a crowd. I think before his near death experience, Franti definitely already had a very similar mentality. The lyrics of 'Say Hey (I love you)' off of his 2008 album, "All Rebel Rockers", go to show he was already focused on singing about the love between the closest of people in our lives.

"I've been a lot of places all around the way
I've seen a lot of joy, and I've seen a lot of pain
But I don't want to write a love song for the world
I just want to write a song about a boy and a girl"

Never having been to a Michael Franti and Spearhead concert, I can only imagine the sort of community and love amongst the crowd inspired by his music. I can't wait until September 1st!
