Rumor Buster: Is ‘Mean Girls 2′ Actually Happening?
By now you've probably heard the rumors circulating about 'Mean Girls 2,' in that it could possibly be happening. (And, no, we're not talking about that ABC Family title of the same name.) With the first film becoming a cult classic, one that's still quoted to this day, fans were surely holding out hope for a sequel, but sadly we're here to set the record straight with words from 'Mean Girls' writer-star Tina Fey.
Speaking with Extra TV (via HuffPost) on the red carpet of her new film, 'The Muppets Most Wanted,' Fey admitted that while the original cast -- which included Lindsay Lohan, Rachel McAdams, Amanda Seyfried and Lacey Chabert -- is trying to get together for a reunion, it won't be for 'Mean Girls 2.' She said:
We're coming up next month on the 10-year anniversary of the original movie. I can't believe it either. We're going to see if there's any way to get everyone together, but not a movie, sadly. We're all past high school age.
'Mean Girls' saw Lindsay Lohan portray Cady (pronounced Katy) Heron, a previously home-schooled transfer student who enters public school for the first time, forcing her to experience "girl world" in the process. McAdams, Seyfried and Chabert portrayed the original trio of "Plastics," the three mean girls who ruled the school, and each (though not so much with Chabert) were skyrocketed to fame (... and none for Gretchen Wieners, bye!).
While we won't be seeing a 'Mean Girls 2' in theaters, Fey previously teased the prospect of a 'Mean Girls' musical, which is moving along very slowly with Fey and her husband, Jeff Richmond. The last we heard from the comedienne, "We're taking meetings with people; I've profiled Broadway folks, who are talking to us about it. It's a long process — a year, two years, however long it might take. We watch 'Smash,' so we know how it works!"
