There's even an Instagram page that is dedicated to grizzly bear #399. Sadly, the bear was killed following a collision with a vehicle. Officials were able to identify the bear through ear tags and a microchip.

On the evening of Tuesday, October 22, 2024, grizzly bear 399 was fatally struck by a vehicle on Highway 26/89 in Snake River Canyon, south of Jackson, WY.

said the National Park Service in a press release.

According to NPS, grizzly bear 399 had a yearling cub with her, and the cub's whereabouts are unknown. There is no evidence to suggest the yearling was also involved in the incident, but the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service is monitoring the area.

This is the second report of a grizzly bear dying from a vehicle strike in the Greater Yellowstone Ecosystem in 2024. For more information, click here.
