Montana is full of interesting history, and the railroad played a key role in connecting the state to the rest of the country. Several towns in Montana were created because of the railroad, and there are even museums dedicated to educating residents and visitors about the state's rich railroad history.

HISTORIC MONTANA TRAIN STATION COVERED IN GRAFFITI

Today, the railroad is still an important means of transport, and you can see anything from airplanes to tanks rolling through Montana. If you travel across the state, it's easy to find examples of how important the railroad once was. Sadly, as the use of the railroad declined throughout the years, some of the state's most iconic train stations have been forgotten, and left to wither away.

If you visit towns such as Livingston and Whitefish, the railroad history has been preserved and buildings have been kept up-to-date, and repairs are done as needed. That's not the case in most other cities and towns in the state.

Montana only has one passenger train in the northern part of the state which is operated by Amtrak. The passenger train in southern Montana was discontinued in 1979, according to the Big Sky Passenger Rail Authority, and work is currently being done to restore passenger train service to the southern part of the state.

If you visit Bozeman, the old train station is in rough shape. It's covered in graffiti and is falling apart. It seems like it's been forgotten and left to rot away. Seeing an important piece of Montana's history in such poor condition is disappointing to say the least. If it weren't for the railroad, Bozeman probably wouldn't exist. In the pictures below, you can see the current condition of the station, and how bad it has become.
