A Lake Wind Advisory has been issued for Fort Peck Lake and other areas on Wednesday. Strong winds are creating 3 to 4 foot waves,  and dangerous conditions for smaller boats.

Use caution all day Wednesday if you plan to recreate on Fort Peck Lake. 

Duck Creek and York Island areas are forecasted to receive the largest waves on Wednesday. The weather model link below is VERY handy, and give you the projected wave height throughout the afternoon and evening hours.

The Fort Peck Lake area conditions can be checked anytime HERE. 

  • A LAKE WIND ADVISORY REMAINS IN EFFECT UNTIL 10 PM WEDNESDAY EVENING.
  • WHAT...South winds 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 35 mph expected.
  • WHERE...Fort Peck Lake.
  • WHEN...Until 10 PM Wednesday evening.
  • IMPACTS...Strong winds and rough waves on area lakes will create hazardous conditions for small craft.
  • ADDITIONAL DETAILS...Waves up to 4 feet are expected today on Fort Peck Lake.
  • PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Boaters on Fort Peck Lake should use extra caution since strong winds and rough waves can overturn small craft.

There are six recreation sites within close proximity to the dam. By checking the Fort Peck Lake projected wave model, you can determine which areas might be more dangerous than others.

"One recommendation is to go out to the Pines Campground, about 20 miles southwest of the dam. It provides some great scenery and photo opportunities, especially late in the day." (Missouri River MT)
