NEW WARNING: 60 MPH Winds for Montana’s Hi-Line on Thursday

Be aware: if you need to drive in northern Montana on Thursday, you'll probably encounter very strong winds. Gusts up to 60 MPH are in the forecast. Montana's Hi-Line between Glacier and Shelby are the target area.

Towing through the area on Thursday is not recommended. High profile vehicles and semi trucks should use extra caution. Blow-overs are possible.

High winds are not uncommon in this area, but travelers not familiar with the area need to know that it's very rural. Roadside assistance can take much longer if needed.

• WHAT...West winds 30 to 40 mph with gusts up to 60 mph possible.
• WHERE...The Montana Hi-Line adjacent to the Rocky Mountain Front, and Southern High Plains.
• WHEN...From Thursday morning through Thursday evening.
• IMPACTS...Travel could be difficult, especially for high profile vehicles.
• PRECAUTIONARY/PREPAREDNESS ACTIONS... Monitor the latest forecasts and warnings for updates.
• A High Wind Watch means that there is at least a 50% chance of 40 mph sustained winds or 58 mph wind gusts occurring during the watch period.

Towns that are within Thursday's High Wind Watch include: Cut Bank, Browning, Shelby, Heart Butte, Choteau, and areas along Highway 2 on Montana's Hi-line.

Highway 287: Gusty wind will also affect travelers headed south out of Choteau on HIghway 287.
